There are more than 300 million fake login attempts to our cloud services every day.It only takes one compromised credential or legacy application to cause a data breach. One of the best things you can do to prevent these attacks is to simply turn on multi-factor authentication, which can block more than 99.9% of account compromise attacks.

Enable security defaults to implement security best practices such as requiring multi-factor authentication and disabling insecure protocols. Security defaults ensure that your security settings remain up-to-date until you decide to manage them yourself. There are no additional costs.

Starting the week of October 17, 2022, we're making it easier for you to enable security defaults by presenting you with a notification when you log in to your Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account via your web browser. If you want to get started now, you can enable security defaults today.

When you enable security defaults:

- As a global administrator, you will be prompted to sign up for multi-factor authentication using the Microsoft Authenticator app and your phone number.

- Everyone else in the organization is asked to register in the Microsoft Authenticator app for multi-factor authentication.

If you have other questions, please read the documentation. If you need more support, you can create a support request on the Azure portal.
